Applied Research Project: “Designing an Integrated Digital System for Health Data Management in a Medical Institution”
- Training Hours: (10) hours Supervised and Evaluated
- Project Description:
The project aims to design an integrated digital system for managing health data within a medical institution, providing a secure and efficient environment for storing, processing, and retrieving medical data. The trainee will apply health informatics principles and data management tools, while adhering to privacy, security, and interoperability standards across healthcare systems, thereby supporting decision-making and enhancing the quality of healthcare services.
- Project Objectives:
- Train the trainee to analyze the healthcare institution’s needs in terms of data and information.
- Design a practical model for a digital system that ensures efficiency and speed in managing medical data.
- Apply privacy and health information protection standards (HIPAA, GDPR).
- Strengthen skills in using technical tools for managing health data.
- Link the digital system to healthcare quality indicators and improved operational performance.
- Trainee Tasks:
- Collect data and analyze the healthcare institution’s needs regarding medical information management.
- Study the current digital infrastructure (if available) and identify existing gaps and challenges.
- Design a preliminary blueprint for an integrated digital system for healthcare data management.
- Define the system’s functional and technical requirements.
- Select appropriate tools and technological platforms for project implementation.
- Apply privacy and data protection standards (HIPAA, GDPR) in the system design.
- Develop a practical prototype or simulation demonstrating the functionality of the proposed system.
- Build a compliance matrix linking the system to international standards of security, privacy, and interoperability.
- Draft a comprehensive written document (10–12 pages) including the design, specifications, and justification of choices.
- Prepare a professional presentation summarizing the design process and final results before the evaluation committee.
- Supervision and Guidance Approach:
- Academic supervision sessions (5 hours) distributed across the project phases (analysis – design – review).
- Individual or group follow-up to provide technical and administrative guidance.
- Advisory support in selecting the appropriate tools and digital platforms.
- Final review to ensure compliance with global healthcare security and quality standards.
- Project Deliverables:
- A written design document (10–12 pages) containing the specifications of the proposed digital system.
- A system architecture diagram showing its components and data flow.
- A prototype or simulation of part of the system using health informatics tools.
- A compliance matrix demonstrating alignment with international standards (security – privacy – interoperability).
- A presentation (PowerPoint) summarizing the system design and key outcomes before the evaluation committee.
