Minister of Higher Education Discusses Higher Education Development and Quality Improvement with President of the American Board

Dr. Marwan Al-Halabi, Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research, met today with Dr. Dima Barakat, President of the American Board in Syria, and her accompanying delegation to discuss joint cooperation in the development of higher education, improving the quality of its outcomes, and advancing the ongoing cooperation agreement between the two parties.
During the meeting, held at the ministry’s headquarters, Minister Al-Halabi highlighted the existing cooperation with several American universities, emphasizing the importance of expanding this collaboration in light of the upcoming openness in Syria.
Minister Al-Halabi stressed the significance of joint cooperation with the American Board, particularly in public and private universities, and the need to invest in higher education to enhance the sector’s competitiveness.
For her part, Dr. Barakat explained that the American Board is a globally accredited body for medical and health specialties, as well as other disciplines, offering extensive expertise and advantages to Syria’s higher education sector. She highlighted the Board’s role in raising the quality of educational outcomes and aligning standards with those in the United States and globally.
Dr. Barakat also noted that registration for the American Board is now available from Syria, along with the possibility of offering scholarships to students and academic staff, and supporting the development of universities and higher education curricula.
The meeting was attended by Dr. Namir Issa, Director of Cultural Relations at the Ministry.
