Dr. Dima Barakat: Syrian Women Are Key Partners in Shaping the Future
Dr. Dima Barakat’s contribution focused on the role of Syrian women in shaping Syria’s future. She emphasized that Syrian women have always been an integral part of the country’s social journey through their contributions to education, employment, family, and community life, as well as through their ability to adapt, persevere, and create possibilities under different circumstances.
She noted that the next stage requires moving beyond viewing women solely as those who have endured challenges, toward recognizing them as partners in developing solutions, production, entrepreneurship, leadership, and decision-making. She stressed that what women need today is not simply more words of appreciation, but genuine opportunities to learn, train, work, innovate, and contribute.
She further emphasized that empowering women is an investment in society as a whole, and that Syria’s future requires making full use of its human potential, so that women’s experience can be transformed into knowledge, knowledge into achievement, and achievement into meaningful impact.
